Okay, I'm still pretty new to this whole blogging business but I've been wanting to try this and see what would happen so here it goes. I found this list of questions to help me do some reflecting at the start of this year. Haven't really gotten around to actually reflecting. The list is actually really long. I just pulled out a few of them. Anywho, thinking that it may be helpful to blog this out. Since...HELLO....the year is almost over. So, I'm going to tag a few blogs that I stalk visit with this short list of reflection questions and ...yeah.
Here are the rules....post answering the questions...at the end of the post, tag a few people and posts their names, then go to their blog and leave a comment, letting them know they've been tagged and asking them to read your blog. Let the person who tagged you know when you've posted your answer. Alrighty!
Shall we begin...
1. What is one thing you could do this year to increase your enjoyment of God?
For me, I'm thinking get outside more. Yesterday I went skating and just looked at the trees in amazement. So, connecting with nature is a good start.
2. What's the single most important thing you could do to improve the quality of your family life this year?
I actually just did it yesterday. I created a family calendar online at google. We have tried the big wipe off board in the hallway...and nobody would write on it. We are both computer people so I think that this works so much better. We can add things to it when we are at work or on the go, print it out if we want... But, we shall see. So, I think this will help us with planning ahead, avoiding arguments because we didn't know what was on each others schedules, having fun things to look forward to....yes...good stuff.
3. What one thing could you do to improve your prayer life this year?
I have really been thinking about this lately. I think embracing the Psalms more. In fact, I just ordered a commentary solely on the Psalms by Robert Alter. It is supposed to be really good. I am still waiting for it in the mail. I have also found that when I wake up in the morning to pray, my mind wants to go all over the place. Everywhere but to prayer. So, I downloaded this meditation timer and have it on my itunes library. This way, I start off with a sound that is a trigger that we are going to pray. The timer also is helpful since I don't have hours and hours to sit like I used to before the baby. This link has also been good helpful. I like the fact that I can rearrange the tracks that I download from him. So, embracing the Psalms and speaking them aloud.
4. What one biblical doctrine do you most want to understand better this year, and what will you do about it? I think that my entire statement of faith could stand to be reviewed much more regularly. So basically, I guess I need to narrow this down. Hmm..let me think on this.
5. What does your devotion time look like? (this is my personal question...I just added it!) I am usually up between 6:30 am and 7 am but I want to get up earlier. I go downstairs and start my water for tea. I usually have my ipod nearby in case I want some music but lately I haven't and I've just been starting the meditation track that I mentioned above. The bells ring and I have my Amplified Bible and a binder that I created. I will take some pictures of it and post it later. It has my notes that I am currently studying, my goals that I have typed out, prophesies I have received that I have typed out and a Daily Word sheet that I created. The Daily word sheet has a place to write down what I read or thought about for each day of the week. This way, it is easy to go back and see what God has been speaking into my heart over the course of a few days, weeks, or months. A little accountability as well. Lately, I've been studying some verses that deal particularly with how we are to relate to one another. So the title of the sheet is "The One Another Commands" It is something that my pastor gave us years ago and I just dug it out. It has been what I've needed. So I will read over something from the sheet and write out the verse. I am big on writing out the verse. I have to do this or I forget. Then, I may highlight it and sit with it for some time, just meditating and waiting for God to speak to my heart. I write out what I am hearing, sensing. Then, I may walk around and declare the word in my house. Back and forth..between the kitchen, family room, living room. I just like to pace. Lately I have been commanding my mornings. This means speaking the blessing over the day, declaring the promises. At this time, I may be lifting my hands, and just walking in authority. Sometimes I sense a need to sit back down and I'll do that or kneel and I'll do that. All of this while sipping on my tea. By this time I usually hear the pitter patter of little feet and .....the day begins.
